It’s Her Fault

This is Mildred (part of her, anyways) and it’s her fault I haven’t blogged the last couple of days, and probably won’t until Monday.

I am a musician, after all, no matter how much I pretend not to be.  I have this new musician friend who’s been inviting me to jam with him and his pals and I’ve been making him wait (sorry, Zen. :P) because my mind hasn’t been on music since I got here.  It’s been on organizing and preparing my workstation and closet (because my outfits are definitely part of my ‘work’ — hahaha).  But Zen has read my blog, and the last couple of times we’ve hung out he’d say,

“So when are we going to jam, man?”

And before I could answer, he’d say:

“But you know what?  I think your mind’s not on music, man.  What you really want is to be a DESIGNER!”

He says the word like it’s on all caps.  On both instances, I never get to protest that, no, man, you’ve totally missed the note on that one.  Maybe it’s because I know I wouldn’t be able to say it with conviction.  I’m not out to be on Project Runway or start up my own clothing line.  But creating things is part of my life, whether it’s music, clothes, jewelry, or stories.  Creating is designing, right?

Anyways, this week, music won my attention.  And it’s about time, I say!

My knee dictated my outfit choice these past few days.  Shirt-leggings-big poncho (or boncho, snicker!)-socks-slippers-and, of course, the most somber-looking but reliable knee brace.  A blah outfit but it kept me comfy.

Anyways, lovelies, just letting you guys know I’m still alive.  Have yourself a wonderful knee pain-free weekend!  Talk to you soon!

You should post a video of yourself playing the piano again for old time’s sake. You playing The Simpsons theme out of the blue in first year class still haunts me. 🙂

You are a designer, a designer of music because you do create something out of practically nothing. Designing means making something new and innovative. Music, in this case, could be innovated, changed and expressed, so it is no exception that “designing” is also part of making it. Thankfully, you’re not just confined through that box definition of designer because you do create a lot of pretty things. :p

hope your knee recovers fast…in the meantime, you could design ways to have fun with it (minus the pain) hehe 😉

I was so engaged with your bit about designing that I scalded my tongue when I took a swig of coffee, forgetting it was piping hot. 😦 Hahaha! (Ouch!) I know I have nothing to do with it but I’m proud of my girls when they spew wise words.

I don’t remember playing the Simpson’s theme in class. Was it part of the lesson? Was I just showing off? Maybe trying to get your class’ attention, you noisy bunch! Hahaha!

Anyways, thanks for the wise and lovely words, dearie. 😀

  2. There are a lot of things we do when we’re young that we don’t think those will come back to haunt you.
    Hope you’re OK, Liz.

Haha! I’m making a list in my head now because of what you said. 🙂

I’m fine, just been really preoccupied. Thanks for dropping by, modobs!

glad to know you’re still alive. hehehe. and moving on to something other than just blogging. 🙂

btw, when’d you start having knee troubles? i had not known you had knee troubles.

Thanks, dearie. The knee trouble started ages ago during my running days. I would run at least 5K around the university oval after class wearing my grandfather’s old running shoes, a pair of worn down nike’s. He just passed away. I was very sentimental and didn’t want to replace the shoes even though the soles have lost their grip. I slipped and tripped all over the oval but I kept running anyway. When you’re young, you don’t think those things will come to haunt you.

ohhh so that’s the story.. but i think that’s true. i know of someone who’s like in her 60’s or 70’s and is having lots of back trouble now because she used to climb – and fall from – trees when she was a kid. your injury must have been pretty bad.. maybe it didn’t heal very properly? :O

It was made worse by other injuries I got from various sports and theater activities. Unlike you, I don’t have great coordination and that made me very clumsy. Hahaha!

Did you know that Millie’s nickname comes from Mildred? It’s not her actual name, but we ended up in a situation where we had four friends with the same name. We figured out that for two of them it wouldn’t matter, since they didn’t hang out with the rest of us as much. But the other two (Millie being one of them) – that was going to be a problem. The solutions came down to a) a fight to the death or b) renaming one of them. I suggested that Millie looked like a Mildred, then a Millie, and the rest is history!

It was a very good name choice. Millie does really look like a Millie. What a strange coincidence having 4 friends with the same name! Hahaha!

It’s true, though I thought it was Millicent that was initially suggested. This was probably 6 or 7 years ago now, though (egads!), so I could be mis-remembering it. I thought it would last about 2 weeks, but it’s shown remarkable staying power.

Wow! I read from your blog pages that ‘Millie” could be an pseudonym but I thought it was for the blog. That’s a long time to keep a name. Do you like it better than your real name now?

      • Millie says:

Yeah, I say it could be a pseudonym because it’s not my real name, but it’s been a nickname for so long that it’s sort of a real name to me. It depends on your definition of pseudonym, I think, though I’ve clarified that slightly now on our About page. I like my real name a lot, though 🙂

You’re right. It’s a pseudonym to all of us except for your friends who know your real name. 🙂 I like Millie, though. I wish I thought of that when I named my piano Mildred.

Your real name is lovely, but you’ll always be Millie to us!

Awww… such sweeties, you both are.
